Modeling Behavior Represents More to NYC Couple
Going to work every day was like swimming in a sea of millions of New York City yuppies just like us. But we didn't know how to reach them with the truth of Jesus. And we didn't know if there were others who had the same burden.
In 1984, my husband, Jeff, and 8 of our Christian friends from the modeling and fashion industry met in a Manhattan apartment to pray. We wanted to help reach young professionals in our industry for Christ.
After 4 years God had raised up a strong team of spiritual leaders. Our ministry was growing. But God soon opened the doors wider than our ability to harvest. Young professionals from Wall Street to Madison Avenue began attending our meetings. For this growth to continue, we needed some serious help.
Campus Crusade for Christ's Executive Ministries was in New York City reaching out with the same spirit, only to a different audience. We saw the total ministry package they offered and knew that these young professionals needed something like it. The training, staffing and platform of a worldwide ministry like Campus Crusade were just what we were praying for.
We were invited to the headquarters, and all 12 of our leaders flew out to see if this marriage could work.
The training and depth of commitment we saw and received there changed us all. Bill Bright even took an evening to meet with us and encourage us.
We began learning how to build new believers into leaders. Through Campus Crusade, God provided training, tools, and eventually a partnership with others also helping to influence young professionals.
Together with Campus Crusade, God has taken our vision to reach young professionals "above and beyond all that we could ask or imagine," like it says in Ephesians. I am eternally grateful that Campus Crusade risked investing in lay people who landed on their doorstep. Without their encouragement and resources the vision would be little more than a dream, and thousands of professionals might still be looking for Him.
