“Because of your faithfulness, people will never be the same again.”
Ben Rivera, Campus Crusade staff member, beach evangelism strategist and motivator for Big Break, spoke these unofficial words of prophecy to the students on the opening night of the conference.
The very thought gave me chills.
The idea that eternity is affected by our ability to usher others into heaven is amazing. So in my final post for the week, I wanted to leave all of you with a little taste of what we experienced here at Big Break in Panama City Beach:
Mohamed comes from a home split in two. His father practices one religion, his mother another, so he admits to being torn on all things spiritual.
He expresses a desire to pursue the Christian faith, but the threat of beatings from his father is enough to deter any interest. With “Jesus is hope” tattooed on one arm, and “Christ is faith” on the other, he is truly at a crossroads.
Thanks to 2 brave girls who approached him outside of a liquor store on Wednesday night, Mohamed is now going home with a better understanding of the gospel, and a renewed spark to pursue the truth.
Not Just The Students on Beach
Nick, a sophomore from Grand Valley State University, was in a similar boat. He came to Big Break with Campus Crusade.
“I thought I was saved, but it wasn’t until after I prayed with someone else who received Christ that I realized I needed to do it too,” he said.
Nick came to Big Break thinking he had things figured out, yet even through his personal struggles with sin, God used him to reach another with the gospel, not to mention he too personally prayed to receive Christ in his own life that very same day.
“I know that I’m different. God’s turned me into a totally new person,” Nick declares.
Here are the final numbers for Big Break this week.
- 456,190 meals packed for Haiti over the past 2 weeks.
- 9,260 conversations initiated with spring breakers on the beach.
- 6,368 full conversations with college students on the beach.
- 3,654 spring breakers heard a presentation of the gospel using the Knowing God Personally booklet.
- 421 spring breakers indicated decisions to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
And there are still a couple of weeks left—several hundred more Christians arrive in town tomorrow to start another week.
Amid the beer bongs, ping-pong balls, and all that is in between, the glory of our Heavenly Father reigned supreme here at Panama City Beach.
