Pakistan is an Islamic Republic, where Shari'a law has been increasingly applied, and its effects to minorities are dire. Persecution has become a growing reality since 1991. Christians who come from a Muslim background are particularly under threat, and there are possibly thousands of secret believers. The church has grown despite many social disadvantages.
